Little bit country

Love the look of the rugged ladder with the Pendleton Wool Blanket hung - Lucky for my sister, she has this exact blanket.

The throw on the end of the bed is the perfect pop of rustic charm for this lovely room

Quite simply done

A touch of Pendleton wool throughout

This is my blanket.  Isn't it gorgeous!!?

Something I am becoming more and more obsessed with lately is my Pendleton Wool blanket.  I love the way it looks against my french country decor.   Something else I love about this blanket, it represents home and comfort.  I was raised not far from Pendleton, Oregon and the woolen mill.  My mother makes a daily commute into Pendleton to work, and on a cold winter day early in my youth she made the decision to purchase a large woolen blanket from the Pendleton Mill for both my sister and I.   She gave these blankets to us with the terms that we keep warm with them but keep them forever and to always take very good care of them.   And we have.  Mine is cherished alongside two quilts made by women in my family many generations ago.

As in true Oregonian style, these items are often a legacy passed down from generation to generation.  Most families have at least one of they blankets around the house.   Some homes I have seen decorated floor to ceiling in these rustic vibrant prints.   And while I don't fully stick with true Oregon and western flare for my home, I feel there is always room for a little bit of country in every room.  I proudly use and display my blankets and quilts to the envy of my close friends.  As seen in the above photos, even the most elegant rooms benefit from a Pendleton blanket in the midst of the decor.

For those of you still close to home, the mill does have sales and much more reasonable prices than retail stores.   Those of us in the Portland area, we have our very own Pendleton store in the Pearl District that has every imaginable good made from this special wool.   And for the ultimate score, always look for these blankets when thrifting.  This is an amazing way to find prints that are no longer in production, or the possiblity of finding an antique quilt which can be worth their weight in gold.

Party pop

Tissue Tassel - Sherbert

Doesn't seeing all this colorful garland make you just want to throw a party?  Etsy is brimming with all kinds of textures, shapes, and colors of garland.  People are so crafty, but these would also be really fun to make too.  One of my friends is busying herself preparing for an upcoming 1st birthday party for her daughter and, in visions of pink, I can totally see garland like this at the party.   Such a cute and festive way to add a pop of color to a party.

While standing at Michael's Crafts the other day I had a vision of making a garland to hang above my bed.   I don't think I would go for as much color as these, but they are inspiring none the less.   My crafty hamster wheel is turning.

Mossery

lush green moss

This week, and today in particular, have been kind of blah.  It has been terribly rainy here in Portland, with some areas on the verge of flooding.  I haven't been productive, haven't gotten much sleep, and have felt totally exhausted.  When the weather gets dark and grey, so does my mood.  I am feeling very uninspired.  This morning, in a rare burst of sunlight, I captured a picture of the moss that grows in abundance all over this city.  It is so easy to overlook but it is so lush and vibrant.  I would love to have a live topiary with this beautiful moss, but fear it would take a deadly downward spiral, like my most recent succulent garden.

Obilation

 Ribbon Rack

Unique single sheet wrapping paper

12 month card calendar
Each card has a different month and calendar, so cute

Vintage maps

Printing presses

 Printing press reception cards

Last weekend I had the chance to sneak into one of my favorite Pearl District spots - Obilation Papers & Press.  This is THE place to go for unique gift cards, wrapping paper, invitations, calendars, book labels, virtually anything you can think of that surrounds paper.  Whilst this may not be exciting to some people, special and unique products really rock my socks.

My friend spotted the vintage maps printed as wrapping paper.  She has been wanting to frame some maps to decorate her master, and these were perfect for her.  Images of old Great Britain and France, beautifully printed, and for sale at $4 a pop.  She snatched up a few for framing and I can't wait to see the end product.

At Obilation I was quickly reminded how cute specialty wrapping paper can be, not just for presents, but also when framed.  Not limited to wrapping paper, even beautiful little cards, wallpaper, or even the calendar cards above, can be the perfect additions to a wall.  Now I just need to get some inspiration to redecorate my master bedroom and find the perfect print for myself.  Some crafty and inspirational ideas below.

Pheromone.

Aren't these pieces amazing!?  I randomly found this gallery while shopping with a friend in Salem, Oregon of all places.  The artist, Christopher Marley, travels around the globe collecting the most amazing organic natural objects, then puts them into a museum quality, archival framed box.  The colors of the insects are all completely natural, he does not alter them in any way.  The photos don't capture how beautiful the colors and textures of the insects are in person.  I looked around for such a long time and there was no way I could commit to buying one because I loved them all so very much.  I plan to go back and purchase one very soon because I have never seen anything like it or anything that could even compare.

As you can see on the Pheromone Gallery website, the pieces are not cheap.  Lucky for us in the area, if you go to the gallery in Salem the prices are dramatically reduced and range from $90 and up.  Much more affordable.  After seeing these pieces in person, I can see why people would pay the premium prices for a piece.  Butterflies and insects aren't usually my gig, but these ones are so beautiful.  And...butterflies remind me of my sister Laura, so having one of these showcased on a wall is a dream of mine.  I can't wait to go back and hopefully bring one of these babies home with me.
